• It is the primary duty of the Board of Education to establish policies and that of the Superintendent to administer such policies.

      Board Policies

  • While serving as a member of the Board of Education, each member shall agree to abide by the following code of ethics, in addition to others, promulgated by the Ohio School Boards Association:

    1. Remember that my first and greatest concern must be the educational welfare of all students attending the public schools;

    2. Encourage ongoing communications among Board members, the Board, students, staff, and the community;

  • Policy 5120 is an uncommon policy that gives the Superintendent sole discretion over any redistricting boundaries without oversight. This policy also includes 5 of the 8 redistricting criteria used for placing students in buildings.

    This policy will be reviewed, and possibly amended, to include board approval for any final redistricting maps and any modifications to the existing criteria.

    The Superintendent assigns to schools within this District consistent with the best interests of students and/or the best use of the resources of this District, as set forth in this Policy.

    The Superintendent shall determine annually the school attendance areas of the District and shall assign students to the proper schools and grades.

  • The Board of Education believes that, in general, it is the primary duty of the Board to establish policies and that of the Superintendent to administer such policies. Policy should not be originated or changed without the recommendation of the Superintendent. The Superintendent should be given the latitude to determine the best method of implementing the policies of the Board.

    The Superintendent, as the chief executive officer of the School District, is the primary professional advisor to the Board. S/He is responsible for the development, supervision, and operation of the school program and facilities. His/Her methods should be made known to the staff through the administrative guidelines of the District.

     The Board shall retain oversight supervision of such procedures.

    In order to expedite negotiation procedures, the Superintendent is appointed as chief representative of the Board for the purpose of determining negotiation strategies and members of negotiations teams for collective bargaining with recognized unions and employee units.

    The Board is responsible for determining the success of the Superintendent in meeting the goals established by the Board through annual evaluations of the Superintendent's performance. The Board, in formulating its position with regard to the performance of the Superintendent, shall rely, whenever possible, on the objective outcomes of its evaluations rather than on subjective opinions.

  • It is the intent of the Board to maintain an appropriate racial balance as required by R.C. 3313.98.

    The Superintendent is directed to consult with legal counsel to review the District's compliance and determine any actions necessary to comply with state and federal law. The Superintendent shall then make any appropriate recommendations to the Board.
